The FLAMBOYANT DE YERES or SESBANIA PUNICEA really lives up to its name, from June to September it is covered with clusters of bright vermilion butterfly flowers. The flowering is followed by very decorative and musical pods when the wine shakes them like a chime. A shrub or a small tree if it is grown as a stem, it has a spreading habit with arched branches. The deciduous foliage is made up of fine pinnate, soft green leaves offering a light shade. Native to South America, it is a mild climate plant that will withstand frost for short periods of time and can recover from prolonged frost. It can be combined with Musa, Phormium, Colocasia and other exotic plants for a Jungle Garden effect. In a pot, it will brighten up your terrace or patio all summer long. The SESBANIA PUNICEA likes sunny exposures and rich soils and should be watered copiously during the summer.
