It is a natural hybridization between an agave macroacantha and manfreda maculosa, native to northern Mexico. The Agave manfredi Mint Chocolate Chip is a very graphic variety with thin leaves with embossed edges and a cream-coloured border. The bluish-green, brown-spotted leaves are very long and tend to curl up slightly as they grow, giving it the appearance of an exuberant starfish. Flowering is quite rare but can appear as a large inflorescence with very fine, slender flowers of greenish-brown hues.
